The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release of Sri Lankan cricketer Chamika Karunaratne on bail. The order was issued today (8) by the Colombo Additional Magistrate, who directed that the cricketer be released on a surety of Rs. 1 million, when he appeared before the court.

The legal controversy emerged after a woman filed a lawsuit alleging that Karunaratne is the father of her two-month-old child. The plaintiff has petitioned the court requesting a DNA test to confirm paternity and is seeking maintenance, claiming that the cricketer has failed to fulfill his parental responsibilities.

According to the plaintiff, Chamika Karunaratne has refused to acknowledge the child or allow his name to be used on the child’s documents. She stated that she was compelled to file the lawsuit due to his continued refusal to accept accountability for the child.
