Kuliyapitiya Crime OIC Transferred over Viral Assault Video

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crimes Division of the Kuliyapitiya Police has been transferred in connection with allegations of assaulting a civilian.

The transfer follows investigations into a video that recently circulated on social media, showing a police officer in civilian attire assaulting a person inside a private residence.

According to the Police Media Division, the officer has been transferred from the Kuliyapitiya Police Station to the Mawathagama Police Station.

An investigation into the incident has been launched under the direct supervision of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Western Province. During the inquiry, it was revealed that the individual seen assaulting the civilian in the video is the OIC of the Crimes Division of the Kuliyapitiya Police.

Police said the transfer was effected in view of the ongoing investigation, and that disciplinary action is also expected to be taken against the officer in due course.
