National List MP Namal Rajapaksa has instructed party representatives to provide daily reports on the prevailing disaster situation and the effectiveness of relief and reconstruction efforts, according to former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna parliamentarian Janaka Tissa Kuttirachchi.
Speaking to the media, Tissa Kuttirachchi said he had been personally directed by Namal Rajapaksa to closely monitor developments related to the disaster situation and to report on them on a day-to-day basis. He said the instructions included assessing whether damaged bridges were being properly reconstructed and whether compensation was being fairly and promptly provided to affected communities.
Commenting further, Tissa Kuttirachchi said Namal Rajapaksa’s role extends beyond representing a single electorate.
“Namal is not an MP who represents just one seat. He is a National List MP who represents the country and the nation. Therefore, he has every right to inquire into these matters,” he said.
Tissa Kuttirachchi added that the focus of the reporting was to ensure accountability and proper oversight of disaster response measures, particularly in areas affected by recent adverse weather conditions.
