The Constitutional Council has rejected the nomination of O. R. Rajasinghe proposed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the post of Auditor General.
The nomination was submitted to the Constitutional Council last Wednesday by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
At the meeting, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, only four members voted in favour of the President’s nominee, while five voted against.
Rajasinghe is a serving officer of the Sri Lanka Army and a member of the military’s audit division.
With the rejection of Rajasinghe’s name, all four nominations submitted by the President over the past eight months for appointment as Auditor General—either on a permanent or acting basis—have been turned down by the Constitutional Council.
Meanwhile, no acting Auditor General has been appointed during the past two weeks, resulting in significant disruptions to the operations of the National Audit Office.
