A Presidential Commission of Inquiry has been appointed to investigate and report on alleged corruption and irregularities at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).
According to a Gazette notification issued under the signature of the Secretary to the President, the Commission comprises former High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, Chartered Accountant E. R. M. S. H. Ekanayake, and former Senior Superintendent of Police D. S. Wickramasinghe.
The Commission has been mandated to investigate alleged acts of corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, and criminal misappropriation of property said to have occurred within the Colombo Municipal Council between 2010 and 2025.
The Gazette further states that the scope of the inquiry includes the misuse of state resources and privileges, unlawful recruitments and appointments, illegal planning activities, and irregularities in the leasing or renting of movable and immovable properties.
The Commission is tasked with examining these matters and submitting a comprehensive report on its findings.
