Nuriya Police have launched an investigation into information regarding the assault and murder of a 14-year-old boy residing in Part 02 of Nuriyawatta within the Nooriya Police Division.

The Nuriya Police Station received a tip-off last night (2 January 2026) stating that the child in question was being assaulted. Acting immediately, the police arrived at the scene and discovered the boy lying near a house.

The child was admitted to Nuriya Hospital, where the medical officer confirmed that he was already deceased. As the death is considered suspicious, the body has been placed at the Avissawella Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

The child’s father has been arrested by Nooriya Police on suspicion of the death.
