Former Minister Harin Fernando appeared before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court today (6) regarding a case involving alleged violations of election laws during the previous General Election.

Badulla Magistrate Udith Gunathilaka, who presided over the hearing, ordered the case to be recalled on 5 May 2026.

The proceedings follow an incident where Fernando allegedly participated in an illegal parade through Badulla town on the final day of election campaigning, which was identified as a breach of established election regulations.

He was previously arrested on 20 November 2024 after arriving at the Badulla Headquarters Police to provide a statement concerning the incident. Following his initial production before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court, he was released on surety of Rs 500,000.
