The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday (7) requested the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to issue an order to refer Ishara Sewwandi, who is currently in custody after being arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, to the Government Analyst for a facial examination.

The request was made before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.

However, the Magistrate rejected the request, stating that the court does not have the legal authority to issue orders concerning a suspect who has not been produced before court. He further noted that since the suspects are being detained and questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, he is unable to grant the requested order.

The observation was made when Nanda Kumar Thakshi, who is being held under a detention order in connection with aiding and abetting the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder, along with another suspect, was produced before court.
