Veteran Journalist Iqbal Athas Passes Away at 81

Veteran journalist Iqbal Athas passed away this morning (13) at the age of 81 following a brief illness.

Internationally renowned for his reporting on security and defence affairs, Athas gained wide recognition for his column on the wartime security situation published in the Sunday Times. He later served as Consulting Editor of the newspaper.

His funeral will be held this afternoon at the Muslim Grand Mosque Cemetery in Dehiwala.

His remains will lie in state from 9.00 am today (13) at No. 11C/1, Siriwardena Road, Hill Street, Dehiwala.
