Controversial Grade 6 Education Reforms Deferred to 2027

The Cabinet has decided to reassess the Grade 6 English module introduced under the ongoing education reform process and reintroduce it in 2027.

Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa announced the decision today (13) during the weekly Cabinet decisions media briefing.

However, Cabinet Spokesperson Nalin Jayatissa stated that the education reforms pertaining to Grade 1 will proceed as initially planned and will come into effect from this year.

Commenting on the controversial Grade 6 English module, Jayatissa noted that based on the findings of inquiries conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the National Institute of Education (NIE), the NIE Board of Management is expected to institute disciplinary action against the officials responsible for the incident.
