In the past 24 hours, 13 individuals have lost their lives in 10 separate road accidents reported from various parts of Sri Lanka, the Police said.

The incidents occurred in Hatton, Pinnaduwa, Marawila, Ambalantota, Gampola, Hettipola, Batticaloa, Mirihana, Kabithigollawa, and Seeduwa. Among the deceased, four were pedestrians.

Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga has urged the public to exercise caution during the festive season due to increased road traffic.
“With the arrival of the festive season, there is noticeably more traffic on highways and greater movement of pedestrians. Pedestrians must be vigilant while walking, and drivers should exercise utmost care while driving,” he stated.
