Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera and several others were further remanded until 2 February by the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court for allegedly violating the Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Act No. 57 of 1981.
The arrests followed the unauthorised placement of a Buddha statue on land adjacent to the Bodhiraja Sambuddha Jayanthi Viharaya in Trincomalee, along the Trincomalee coastline, without the required approvals.
