The Attorney General’s Department informed court yesterday that investigations into former President Ranil Wickremesinghe are expected to be completed within one month, with indictments to be filed before the High Court thereafter.
Appearing before court, counsel representing the Attorney General’s Department stated that inquiries conducted thus far relate, among other matters, to Wickremesinghe’s visit to the United Kingdom, which investigations so far have revealed was not an official visit.
The case was taken up for consideration today (28), following which the court ordered that the matter be called again on 29 April for further progress.
The Attorney General’s Department assured court that remaining investigative steps are being expedited to enable the timely filing of indictments upon the conclusion of the probe.
