SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has said that the Government will not be able to suppress allegations of large-scale corruption, even if action is taken against him or members of his family.

Speaking to the media, Rajapaksa stated that summoning him or his mother before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), or even sending them to prison, would not conceal what he described as serious wrongdoing by the Government.

He alleged that the Government would not be able to cover up what he termed the destruction of the country’s religious and indigenous cultural identity, injustices against the Maha Sangha and religious leaders, and serious crimes such as drug trafficking involving containers.

Declaring that he was prepared to face any consequences, Rajapaksa issued what he described as a direct challenge to the Government, stating: “We are ready for anything. Let us see.”

Referring to the upcoming local government elections, Rajapaksa said his political movement had strengthened significantly, with increased public support. He also claimed that what he described as false promises made prior to the Government coming into power were now being exposed one by one.

Rajapaksa further alleged that individuals who played a key role in establishing the former “good governance” administration were now publicly revealing how funds had been spent at the time to discredit the Rajapaksa-led Government. According to him, even those who allegedly received such funds were now speaking openly about the organisations and political parties involved.

He also claimed that details were emerging regarding a large-scale coal-related fraud under the current administration. Rajapaksa alleged that substandard coal had been imported and that attempts were being made to downplay the issue by imposing only a minor fine.

The MP further stated that the Government was facing growing public backlash over education reforms, alleging that under the guise of reform, content incompatible with the country’s culture had been introduced into school curricula, which he claimed distorted children’s thinking.

Rajapaksa also pointed to relief payments issued to disaster-affected communities, claiming that cheques issued by the Government had been returned due to insufficient funds, which he said was clear evidence of the public being misled.

Elaborating further, Rajapaksa said that attempts were being made to use public funds, the judiciary, the Police, and the Attorney General’s Department to portray previously spread falsehoods as truth. He warned that such actions would ultimately damage the entire State apparatus and that those responsible would have to be held accountable.

“This is the real misuse of public funds,” he said, alleging that character assassination, the spread of falsehoods, and the fuelling of social hatred were being carried out alongside efforts to legitimise those claims using State institutions.

Reiterating his stance, Rajapaksa said that even if he or his mother were summoned before the CID or imprisoned, the alleged coal fraud, injustices against religious leaders, drug trafficking allegations, and what he described as deception of disaster-affected communities through unfunded cheques could not be concealed.

“If the Government believes these issues can be hidden, then let them try,” he said.
