Maithree Wickramasinghe, wife of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been notified to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of an inquiry into whether a financial offence was committed during the controversial UK visit.

The notice, conveyed through the Kollupitiya Police, directs her to report to the FCID on 20 February.

The development was disclosed in court today (18) by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris of the Attorney General’s Department when the matter relating to the bail order of former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake was taken up before court.

The investigation is aimed at determining whether any financial irregularities amounting to criminal misconduct occurred in connection with the overseas visit.
