Police in Keppetipola yesterday (20) arrested a 31-year-old mother and her alleged partner over the assault of her two toddlers at a house in the lower section of Warwick Estate, Ambewela.

The suspects are accused of assaulting an eight-year-old girl and a two-and-a-half-year-old child with wooden poles, causing injuries and subjecting them to cruelty, police said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as the children’s mother, a resident of the lower division of Warwick Estate, and her 35-year-old partner, who is reportedly a father of three.

The injured children, who are residents of the lower section of Diyarabawa Estate, Mirahawatta, were admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police said the two children had been living with their mother and their 38-year-old lawful father at a house in the lower division of Diyarabawa Estate, Mirahawatta.

Further investigations are under way.
