Senior Attorney-at-Law S.K. Sangakkara has passed away, family sources confirmed.

A respected legal practitioner based in Kandy, Sangakkara was well known within the legal fraternity and the wider community for his longstanding service to the profession. He was also the father of former Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara.

He is survived by his wife, Kumarie, and children Thusharie, Vemindra, Saranga and Kumar, along with his sons- and daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

His remains will lie at his residence in Kandy. The family has requested privacy during the period of mourning.

The funeral will be held on 4 March 2026 at 6.00 p.m. at the Mahaiyawa Cemetery in Kandy. The cortege will leave the residence at 4.30 p.m.
