A woman who was gang-raped attacked with acid was brought to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BWH) in critical condition almost two weeks ago and died at the health center on Monday.
According to the district police spokesperson, the victim, Seemab Iqbal, had come to Bahawalpur from Kichiwala in Fort Abbas tehsil of Bahawalnagar district in search of work and stayed in a private hostel in Asif town.
His brother Sohaib Iqbal told police that he lost contact with Seemab as his phone was switched off, prompting him to rush to Bahawalpur where he lodged a complaint with Baghdadul Jadid police.
On his complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR No. 2390/24) about her abduction under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code on December 9.

According to the police, Seemab was brought to BVH in a critical condition on the night of December 9 and they tried to run away after leaving her in the emergency room of the hospital.
However, some people in the hospital saw the suspicious activities of the suspects and chased them and arrested one of them, later identified as Haroon, while the other managed to escape.
During the examination by the doctors of BVH, it was revealed that the woman had been gang-raped and had acid burns on her body.
Here, the police added the offenses of rape and attempt to murder (Sections 376 and 324 of PPC) in the earlier FIR.
The police say that the other disciple involved in the crimes has also been arrested and that the two suspects are being interrogated.
They say Section 302 was also added to the FIR after the victim’s death.
According to BVH Medical Superintendent Dr Amir Mahmood Bokhari, doctors tried to save the victim’s life but she died on Monday.
After her death, the police took the body to the mortuary for post-mortem and later it was handed over to her family.
Meanwhile, according to an official paper, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO).
She also expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased.
