The Colombo High Court has ordered that the case filed against former Minister Udaya Gammanpila, over the alleged misappropriation of company shares worth Rs. 20 million belonging to an Australian businessman, be taken up again on 27 March.

The case was taken up yesterday (17) before Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda.

After considering the submissions made, the judge ordered that the matter be recalled on 27 March 2026.

The Attorney General had filed the case against Gammanpila and businessman Sydney Jayasinghe during the Yahapalana Government.

The prosecution alleges that between 26 September 1996 and 25 September 1997, Gammanpila had criminally misappropriated Rs. 20 million by selling 21 million shares of a private bank. The shares had been purchased under the name of Digital Nominees (Pvt) Ltd., a company owned by Australian businessman Brian Shaddick.

According to the indictment, the alleged offence was committed by preparing a forged Power of Attorney to facilitate the transaction.
