New system to recover fuel QR codes launched

A new mechanism has been introduced from today (19) to enable vehicle owners to retrieve fuel QR codes registered under mobile phone numbers that are no longer in use or are held by another party.

The system was introduced to address difficulties faced by the public when attempting to access QR codes of vehicles previously registered before 14 March 2026, where the original phone number used for registration is no longer accessible.

Under the new arrangement, users can regain access to their vehicle’s QR code by verifying ownership through accurate entry of the vehicle number and chassis number.

Even if a vehicle has already been registered under a different phone number prior to 14 March 2026, users can now input the correct details, cancel the existing registration, and re-register the vehicle under a new mobile number.

Once the ‘Override’ option is selected, the previous account linked to the vehicle will be removed from the system, and a new account with the updated user details will be activated immediately.

Authorities noted that this process will invalidate the existing QR code registration, resulting in the previous user losing all associated access and benefits. The new feature is expected to ensure that rightful owners can obtain their fuel QR codes without obstruction, particularly in cases where vehicles had been registered under inactive or third-party phone numbers.

The Ministry of Digital Economy further warned that attempting to remove or alter registration details of a vehicle without legal ownership constitutes a punishable offence.
