U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor will visit Sri Lanka and the Maldives from 19 to 24 March for a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
During his visit to Sri Lanka, Gor is scheduled to meet with senior leaders to reaffirm the importance of the U.S.–Sri Lanka relationship and enhance collaboration in key sectors. Discussions are expected to focus on safeguarding vital sea lanes, securing ports, strengthening trade and commercial ties, and promoting a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
In the Maldives, the Special Envoy will hold talks with senior government officials to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to bilateral relations, advance security cooperation, and explore opportunities to support infrastructure development and economic expansion. The visit will also mark 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The United States reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with Sri Lanka and the Maldives, underscoring shared priorities of regional security and stability.
