A man was sentenced to a fine of Rs. 2,500 and two months’ compulsory imprisonment by Mount Lavinia Magistrate Pansan Amaraseena on 19 March for transporting 65 litres of petrol without a valid licence.

The suspect had been arrested by the Wellawatte Police following a tip-off that a stock of fuel had been obtained from a filling station in the area. He was taken into custody near the fuel station while transporting the petrol in a lorry.
