Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has said that the Government must recognise that the country and the world face far more pressing issues than the Rajapaksa family.
He made these remarks while addressing recent political developments, urging the administration to shift its focus towards broader national and global challenges.
Rajapaksa recalled that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had, at the time of deciding to end the war, stated in Parliament that the consequences of such decisions could extend even to future generations.
Accordingly, he stressed that he would neither retreat nor regret his position regardless of the Government’s response.
Commenting on the President’s recent statement regarding the rejection of a United States military aircraft request, Rajapaksa said that if such a decision had indeed been taken, it would be a positive one. However, he noted that its credibility would need to be assessed over time.
“I am not certain whether the President made this statement in good faith or assuming that it would not be clearly understood. If such a decision has genuinely been taken, it is commendable. However, we will need to wait a little longer to determine the validity of that statement,” he added.
