Indictments were served on Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody before the Colombo High Court today (27). He was granted bail on two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against Jayakody, who is currently serving as the Minister of Energy, over an alleged act of corruption during his tenure as Deputy Procurement Manager of Lanka Fertilizer Company Limited.

According to the indictments, while serving in that capacity in 2016, the accused had allegedly caused unlawful profit and benefit to a private company through a carpet procurement contract related to the company’s warehouse premises, resulting in a loss of over Rs. 8.8 million to the Government.

The Bribery Commission has filed charges under Section 70(a) of the Bribery Act, alleging that the accused committed an offence of corruption.
