The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is expected to announce its final decision on electricity tariff revisions tomorrow (30), following a review of a proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), The Sunday Morning reported.

According to PUCSL Chairman Prof. Lalith Chandralal, the CEB has proposed a uniform tariff increase of 13.56% for the April–June quarter, citing a projected revenue shortfall of Rs. 15.8 billion.

The regulator is currently assessing the submission and will determine whether tariffs should be increased, reduced, or maintained after a meeting of commission members.

Prof. Chandralal stated that past debts and financial losses of the CEB would not be passed on to consumers under the upcoming revision. He also noted that no immediate power cuts were expected, although supply stability would depend on continued availability of fuel and coal.

The proposed revision forms part of the routine quarterly pricing mechanism, and the final outcome may differ from the increase requested by the CEB.
