The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has unanimously approved an increase in electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026, with the revised rates set to take effect from 1 April.

The Ceylon Electricity Board had sought a 13.56% tariff revision for the quarter, which has now been approved by the regulator with adjustments across multiple consumption bands.

Under the revised structure, consumers in the 0–30 unit category will see a 4.3% increase, translating to an additional Rs. 15 per month.

For those consuming between 31–60 units, tariffs have been increased by 6.9%, resulting in a monthly rise of Rs. 45.

The 61–90 unit category will also face a 6.9% increase, with an additional monthly cost of Rs. 120.

Consumers in the 91–120 unit bracket will experience a 7.1% increase, amounting to a monthly rise of Rs. 420.

Meanwhile, users consuming above 180 units will see a significantly higher increase, with tariffs rising by 25%.

The revision comes as part of the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism, reflecting changes in generation costs and sectoral financial requirements.
