The Government has decided to immediately cancel the special weekly holiday granted to public sector employees on Wednesdays, which was introduced in response to the country’s fuel crisis.

Commissioner General of Essential Services Prabath Chandrakeerthi said the new decision will come into effect from Wednesday, 8 April.

An official circular in this regard is expected to be issued shortly by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

The Wednesday holiday had previously been declared by the Government as a measure to conserve fuel amid the ongoing economic crisis.
