Youth arrested over Rs. 1 million fake banking website scam

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged fraud involving Rs. 1,000,024 after creating a fake website resembling the official website of a private bank.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody yesterday (20) following a lengthy investigation launched after a complaint was received by the North Western Province Unit of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division.

The suspect, a resident of Minuwangoda, was later handed over to the Wariyapola Police Station after his arrest.

He is due to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today (21).

Further investigations are being carried out by the North Western Province Unit of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division.
