Chairman of the newly appointed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Transformation Committee Eran Wickramaratne has identified a complete overhaul of Sri Lanka Cricket’s governance structure as the committee’s immediate priority, alongside the implementation of a proposed new constitution.
In a statement, Wickramaratne said he accepted the position following an invitation from President and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Kumara Gamage, with his appointment taking effect from April 29.
He noted that the decision to take on the role was made after extensive discussions with former cricketers and national team captains.
Wickramaratne said the nine-member committee comprises individuals with “impeccable integrity and expertise,” including Sidath Wettimuny, Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Sangakkara, Prakash Schaffter, Thushira Radella, Avanthi Colombage, Upul Kumarapperuma, and Dinal Philips.
He said the committee’s reform agenda would be driven by two key pillars — governance and on-field performance.
“Improved governance is our immediate priority. We will undertake a complete overhaul of the existing framework, with the proposed new constitution forming the cornerstone of this effort,” Wickramaratne said, adding that the committee aims to ensure full compliance with International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations while strengthening transparency, professionalism, and anti-corruption measures.
He further said that rebuilding public trust in SLC through merit-based systems and fiscal discipline would be a central focus.
On performance, Wickramaratne emphasised that administrative reform is essential to sporting success, noting that the committee would work towards establishing improved structures, facilities, and incentive systems to support national teams.
“Our goal is to enable Sri Lanka’s players to consistently deliver world-class performances and return to the top tier of international cricket,” he said.
Wickramaratne also expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to drive change, stating that leading efforts to revive Sri Lanka’s cricketing fortunes was both an honour and a responsibility.
He called for the support and constructive feedback of cricket fans, pledging to deliver measurable and lasting results.
