Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera has called for the Chief Justice to examine whether a judge had communicated details of a court ruling—reportedly due on the 25th—to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Perera said that if such communication had taken place, the Chief Justice should take immediate action against the judge concerned.

Addressing a media briefing, he questioned the basis on which the President had stated that a person who had previously held office would be imprisoned on the 25th, describing the remark as significant and warranting scrutiny.

He further alleged that convictions against members of the Rajapaksa family have largely stemmed from cases filed during the Yahapalana administration, claiming that the current Government has not initiated new legal action against them.

“We also governed, but no member of the SJB faces cases. Therefore, if someone is to be imprisoned, it would have to be an individual from the Rajapaksa camp who contributed to the country’s downfall,” he said.

Perera claimed that no new cases had been filed against Basil Rajapaksa, and that there were neither rulings nor warrants issued against him. He also alleged that no cases or charges had been brought against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, while cases involving members of the Rajapaksa family continued to be delayed.

He further noted that the only case against Ajith Nivard Cabraal had been withdrawn, and claimed that despite being in power for over a year, the Government had failed to file any new cases through the anti-corruption courts established during the previous administration.

Perera also alleged that a case withdrawn earlier under presidential immunity had not been refiled.

He reiterated that regardless of whether the case scheduled for the 25th involves a senior or minor figure, any disclosure of a court decision to the President in advance would be a serious breach, and urged the Chief Justice to take swift action if such conduct is established.
