New Audit Service Commission members take oath of secrecy

Four newly appointed members of the Audit Service Commission took the oath of secrecy before Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne in Parliament.

The new members are former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe, former Deputy Auditor General G. Thevagnanan, retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, and retired public service official Rathna Deshapriya.

In accordance with Section 9 of the National Audit Act, No. 19 of 2018, members are required to take an oath pledging not to disclose any information related to audits to any individual in the public or private sector, except when required by a court, Parliament, or where expressly provided under written law as stipulated in Section 9(a) of the Act. They are also bound not to discuss or make statements regarding such matters.

Chairperson of the Audit Service Commission and Auditor General Samudika Jayaratne, Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, and Director of Legislative Services M. Jayalath Perera were among the officials present at the occasion.
