The Colombo High Court today (06) fixed 17 June for the hearing of the corruption case filed against former Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Following the conclusion of pre-trial proceedings, the presiding judge ordered that the recording of evidence in the case commence on that date.

The court also directed that summons be issued on two prosecution witnesses, requiring them to appear and give evidence on 17 June.

Kumara Jayakody is accused of causing undue advantage to a private company during a carpeting project at the Hunupitiya warehouse complex while serving as Manager of Procurement and Imports at the Lanka Phosphate Company in 2016.

The Bribery Commission has alleged that the actions resulted in a financial loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the State, constituting an offence of corruption.
