Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof has announced his decision to step down from his position, citing increasing difficulties in balancing his responsibilities as Governor, his role as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Direct Investment, and family obligations.
In a statement issued today (17), Yusoof said he had conveyed his intention to resign to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake some time ago.
However, he noted that at the request of the President, he would continue serving as Governor until a suitable successor is identified to ensure a smooth transition.
Yusoof further stated that he hopes to continue serving in his voluntary honorary role as Special Envoy to the President for Foreign Direct Investment, assisting efforts to attract international investment to Sri Lanka.
“It has been a privilege to serve in public office and to contribute, in whatever way I can, to the progress of our nation,” he said in the statement.
