Adverse Weather Affects Nearly 29,000 People Across Eight Districts

More than 28,000 people across eight districts have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions, according to the latest report issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

The DMC stated that 28,933 individuals from 7,482 families have been impacted by the ongoing inclement weather.

The highest number of affected persons has been reported from the Gampaha District, where 15,313 individuals belonging to 3,950 families have been affected. One death has also been reported from the district.

According to the report, 4,265 individuals from 1,219 families in the Puttalam District, 4,566 individuals from 1,051 families in the Colombo District, 4,558 individuals from 1,204 families in the Ratnapura District, 141 individuals from 34 families in the Kalutara District, 80 individuals from 20 families in the Trincomalee District, seven individuals from nine families in the Galle District, and three individuals from one family in the Vavuniya District have also been affected.

The DMC further noted that two houses had been completely destroyed, while 836 houses sustained partial damage due to the disaster situation.

The highest number of housing damages was also recorded in the Gampaha District, where two houses were fully destroyed and 530 houses suffered partial damage.

According to the DMC, the reported impacts span 34 Divisional Secretariat divisions across the eight affected districts.
