Construction of the third phase of the Central Expressway Project commenced today (29) at Bambaragaha Junction in Galagedara under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The third phase of the Central Expressway will extend from Rambukkana to Galagedara.

For the construction works, bids had been called under seven contract packages through a competitive procurement process among qualified local contractors, utilising State funds. Cabinet approval was recently granted for the awarding of the contracts based on recommendations of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee.

Construction of the stretch from Pothuhera to Rambukkana under the Central Expressway Project has already reached its final stage.

Accordingly, all arrangements have been completed to commence work on the next phase from Rambukkana to Galagedara.

Engineer S.B. Wijekoon, attached to the Central Expressway Project, said approximately 19 km would be constructed under this phase.

The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 112 billion.
