Former Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne claimed that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe currently has no plans to return to Parliament.
Speaking during a political programme on a private television channel on Thursday (4), Senaratne said that even international credit rating agencies had warned that Sri Lanka could face severe economic risks and political instability under the present Government.
He dismissed recent reports suggesting that Wickremesinghe was preparing to return to Parliament and that 60 MPs were ready to defect from the Government, describing such claims as media speculation and “fairy tales”.
However, Senaratne alleged that political divisions existed within the Government and claimed that a group of 15 individuals, including 12 MPs and several ministers, had already submitted letters indicating their position.
He further stated that Wickremesinghe had told him during a private discussion that he had no intention of working with or forming a government alongside members of the current administration.
Senaratne also said that Wickremesinghe had demonstrated in practice that he could help steer a bankrupt country towards recovery within a year, and argued that the public would once again look to him if the current administration failed to deliver results.
