A complaint has been submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over defamatory social media posts targeting National People’s Power (NPP) MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi.

Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapakshe, representing the MP, told the media, “We have identified an activist associated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) as the individual behind this false and malicious campaign.”

The lawyer alleged that the activist spread fabricated claims suggesting MP Kottahachchi had visited a hotel with him in exchange for money. “These accusations are completely false and aim to harm her reputation for political gain,” Rajapakshe emphasised.

Calling for dignity and respect in political discourse, Rajapakshe added, “MP Kottahachchi is not just a politician but also a wife and a mother. These attacks are deeply personal and unacceptable.”

He further confirmed that the CID has been requested to launch a comprehensive investigation and to take strict legal action against those responsible. “This is not just about one individual; it’s about ensuring accountability and putting an end to such politically motivated character assassinations,” Rajapakshe said.
