The Colombo High Court on Thursday (11) dismissed an appeal filed by Shashi Weerawansa challenging her conviction, two-year prison sentence and fine imposed for possessing an irregularly obtained passport.
Delivering the judgment, Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne upheld the verdict previously handed down by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, affirming both the conviction and sentence imposed on the appellant.
Shashi Weerawansa was convicted by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in 2022 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 100,000 over the offence.
She subsequently filed an appeal before the Colombo High Court seeking to have the conviction and sentence set aside.
However, the High Court rejected the appeal and confirmed the original judgment delivered by the Magistrate’s Court.
