Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera has questioned whether authorities would once again focus on identifying a “mastermind” only after another explosion occurs somewhere in the country.
Speaking on the Easter Sunday attacks and their aftermath, the monk said that while many countries around the world had experienced terrorist incidents resulting in loss of life, he had not seen religious groups or churches in those countries leading campaigns to identify alleged masterminds behind such attacks.
Gnanasara Thera said that if there were legitimate suspicions regarding the Easter Sunday attacks, they should be investigated through the proper legal mechanisms. However, he expressed concern that responsible officials had shown little interest in what he described as the deeper dimensions and underlying realities of the issue.
“What is this unfortunate situation our country is heading towards? If another explosion takes place somewhere, are we going to spend that day searching for another mastermind?” he asked.
“I am not saying that suspicions should not be investigated. If there are doubts, they must be examined through the proper process. But why is no official interested in the facts we are highlighting and the deeper dimension of this issue?” he added.
