Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya reflected on the transformative changes of the past year and expressed renewed hope for the nation’s future. In her New Year message, she highlighted the collective decision by Sri Lankans to embrace change, unity, and a people-centered political culture.

“The citizens of this country have chosen change: a clean and people-centered political culture and empathetic society, unity as opposed to division,” she stated, emphasizing the nation’s shift towards inclusivity and harmony. The Prime Minister reaffirmed her government’s commitment to uplifting the country in key areas such as the economy, industry, and education. “Our vision is to create a future where every citizen can live a peaceful, free, dignified, and fulfilling life, transcending barriers of race, gender, ethnicity, or religion,” she said.

Acknowledging the country’s past failures to fully realise opportunities for national unity, the Prime Minister urged Sri Lankans to work together to ensure the current momentum for progress is not lost. “We must now ensure that this opportunity is not missed and that we work collectively to preserve it,” she added.

In her message, the Prime Minister also recognised the challenges ahead but expressed optimism about the significant steps already taken towards a brighter future. “While the journey towards a brighter future is challenging, we have already taken significant steps towards achieving that goal. As we approach the threshold of a new year filled with hope and promise, I extend my sincere best wishes to all citizens for a peaceful, happy, and prosperous 2025.”

Calling on all citizens to set aside their differences and come together with a shared purpose, the Prime Minister said, “Our collective focus should be to restore the name of ‘Sri Lanka’ as a proud and prosperous nation on the global stage.”

With her words, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of unity, determination, and collective action as Sri Lanka steps into a new year filled with hope and promise.
