The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has admitted that former State Intelligence Service Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay was subjected to a strip search while in detention, according to his wife, Manori Sallay.

Speaking to the media today (17), Manori Sallay also claimed that her husband’s health condition had deteriorated significantly as he continues his hunger strike while being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

She said Sallay remained determined to continue the fast and was refusing both food and water.

“He is not eating or drinking. He has not given up the hunger strike. His condition is worsening day by day and has become increasingly critical. It is difficult for him to speak and he cannot remain seated for long periods. His arms became swollen due to the cannulas, so those were removed and doctors are now administering small amounts of fluid through a single line to keep him alive,” she said.

Commenting on a meeting with CID officers held yesterday, Manori Sallay alleged that investigators had, for the first time, acknowledged that her husband had been removed from his cell and subjected to a strip search.

“The CID called both of us yesterday. They could not attend the previous time, but they came this time. For the first time, they admitted that Suresh had been taken out of his cell and stripped, as we had alleged. Until now, they had not accepted that. Now they have acknowledged that it happened,” she said.

The CID has not yet publicly commented on the claim.
