Chamari Priyanka, the widow of the Late State Minister Sanath Nishantha, said the current government should not abandon power under any circumstances, arguing that it must fulfil its promise to govern the country successfully.
Addressing the government, she challenged the current administration to remain in office for another two to two-and-a-half years and demonstrate its ability to govern.
She claimed that during the administration of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, state officials were provided with motorcycles, whereas under the current government they had only been offered a loan to purchase 20 kilograms of rice.
Priyanka also criticised the government’s relief measures for public servants, saying even village-level Sanasa societies provide larger loans than the assistance currently being offered by the state.
She further claimed that many parents were struggling to provide three meals a day for their children, with some sacrificing their own meals to ensure their children were fed.
“We are telling this government not to leave. The people asked you to govern and prove yourselves. Stay for another two or two-and-a-half years and show what you can do,” she said.
