Sallay launched his fast-unto-death in early June, alleging torture, cruel, and degrading treatment while in the custody of the CID, which is currently led by retired Senior Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekera. Sallay was transferred to the National Hospital under on 7 June 2026.
