As part of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s digitisation programme, a new digital service enabling expatriate Sri Lankans to obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates through their respective embassies was officially launched today (6 January 2025), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The website, operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, was inaugurated by Minister Vijitha Herath. Initially, this pilot project will serve seven embassies and consulates allowing Sri Lankans in Japan, Qatar, Kuwait, Milan, Toronto, Melbourne, and Dubai to access these essential documents without delays.

Plans are underway to expand the initiative to all Sri Lankan embassies in the near future.

The launch event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, Ministry Secretary Aruni Ranaraja, Registrar General W.R.N.S. Wijayasinghe, and Senior Additional Secretary to the President (Administrative and Diplomatic Affairs) G.G.S.C. Roshan.
