Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardena, has instructed all state institutions to auction their high-capacity V8 luxury vehicles and submit revenue reports by 1 March.

A circular issued to all ministry secretaries and heads of state departments outlines the steps to be taken and prohibits state institutions from repurchasing the auctioned vehicles.

This directive follows the Cabinet of Ministers’ decision on 3 December 2024 to study the government vehicle fleet and dispose of super luxury vehicles that incur high maintenance and fuel costs. The move aims to streamline the vehicle fleet and reduce government expenditure.
