With the inclusion of the Colombo-Badulla train journey among the world’s 10 best train journeys to be experienced in 2025, Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has received fresh attention in the new year.
Listed as the 7th best train in the world by Lonely Planet, a global travel guide known for its expertise in travel insights and recommendations.
Commenting on the ranking, Travel Talks Asia said the recognition is testament to Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a must-see destination.
“Inclusion in this prestigious list affirms Sri Lanka’s commitment to providing travelers with exceptional travel experiences,” the guide said.
The Colombo-Badulla railway line, which spans over 290 kilometers, is operated by the Railway Department and operates five trains a day.
Popularly known as the ‘Ella Odyssey’ by tourists, this trek is popular for its stunning views of tea estates, misty mountains and waterfalls with major stops at places like Ella, Nanuyoya and Haputale.
