Death row inmate Duminda Silva has been transferred back to the Prison Hospital after briefly being moved to the general cell of the Welikada Prison on 10 January,
Silva, who had been receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, was transferred to the Prison Hospital following an inquiry by the Commissioner General of Prisons to the Director General of Health Services.
Earlier, a medical team comprising 18 specialists, appointed by the Ministry of Health, determined that Silva did not require inpatient treatment at either the prison hospital or any other hospital, except in cases of emergency complications.
Based on this recommendation, Silva was moved to the general cell of the Welikada Prison on 10 January. However, in the early hours of 11 January, Silva reportedly experienced a sudden health complication and was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital on the advice of the prison hospital doctor.
After receiving treatment, Silva was returned to the Prison Hospital on 12 January, Prisons Media Spokesperson Gamini B. Dissanayake said.
