Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, was attacked by an intruder at his Bandra residence in Mumbai early Thursday morning. The assailant broke into Khan’s 11th-floor apartment between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m., leading to a confrontation during which Khan sustained six stab wounds, including one near his spine.
Khan was promptly transported to Lilavati Hospital by his elder son, Ibrahim, and a caretaker around 3:00 a.m. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, reported that Khan had six incised wounds caused by a sharp object. As of 9:00 a.m., he was undergoing surgery performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange. Two of the wounds are deep, with one near the spinal cord containing a foreign object, and another on the left wrist requiring plastic surgery. While the injuries are serious, they are not considered life-threatening; however, the full extent of the damage will be determined post-surgery.
The Bandra police, along with the Mumbai crime branch, have launched an investigation into the incident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X) Dikshit Gedam stated that an unidentified person intruded into Khan’s residence, leading to a scuffle. The intruder fled the scene after the attack. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain how the assailant bypassed security measures and accessed the apartment. Three individuals have reportedly been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Khan’s family members were present in the apartment at the time of the incident but were unharmed. The actor’s team has issued a statement requesting privacy and patience from fans during this time.
