16,930 Affected by Adverse Weather Events Across Eleven Districts

A total of 16,930 individuals from 5,738 families have been impacted across eleven districts due to extreme weather such as flash floods, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

The DMC’s situation report confirmed one death and three injuries, with no missing persons reported. Additionally, 239 individuals from 71 families have been relocated to safe locations. A total of 98 houses sustained partial damage, while one house was completely destroyed.

Thundershowers are forecasted in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Fairly heavy showers of around 75 mm are expected in the Eastern and Uva Provinces and in the Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts.

Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph are likely over the eastern slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western, Hambantota, and Moneragala districts.

The public is advised to take precautions to minimise damage from strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
