Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala announced today (20 January) that the allowances of all MPs and Ministers in the National People’s Power (NPP) government are credited to a single account, a practice initiated during Nihal Galappatti’s tenure.

“The President is also following this system,” Watagala said, adding that the funds are deposited in an account in Borella and used exclusively for public service initiatives.

“This approach allows us to create more opportunities to work for the people through this fund,” he added.

Meanwhile, in response to a question about importing vehicles for MPs, Watagala dismissed the claims, stating that no vehicles would be imported specifically for parliamentarians.
